Harold Gonzaléz, known professionally as AfroQbano, is a DJ, music producer, radio host at Lumpen Radio, ambassador of Cuban vinyl culture, eclectic record collector, and founder of Future Rootz Records based in Chicago. Born in Havana, he channels the pulse of the African diaspora through his music, with every set and production deeply rooted in his Afrocuban identity.
AfroQbano began his career in Cuba, where he performed in House and Hip Hop spaces and produced for some of the island’s most innovative underground artists and ensembles. After relocating to Chicago, he quickly established himself as a key figure in the city’s global music scene, recognized for blending Afro-diasporic rhythms with contemporary electronic and urban sounds.
In Chicago, he has also joined forces with local musicians and has helped produce and remix multiple projects, including Beats y Batería. Additionally, he helps organize the annual Latinxt festival, an event that celebrates diversity and innovation within contemporary Latin music.
He has collaborated with a wide range of international artists, and his original tracks and remixes have appeared on releases and mixtapes around the world. Career highlights include sharing stages with influential figures such as Mos Def, Pete Rock, Mulatu Astatke, Antibalas, Ebo Taylor, Cimafunk, Los Van Van, and Los Muñequitos de Matanzas.
